Potton Apple Amnesty

I’ve had a mad idea, but it just might work!

This idea came out of my frustration last autumn seeing so many apples going to waste on gardens all over town. At the time I was focused on free pig food and managed to collect up a great deal with owners permissions, but moving on from that it seemed really sad that so much good fruit was going to waste, even for the apple lover autumn can be too much of a good thing and much will go to waste. So my idea for an Apple Amnesty was born, its a simple plan but it will need lots of support and local publicity, the idea is during the autumn we have a central point in Potton for people to collect up their unwanted fruit and drop them off, then one weekend we’ll crush and press the fruit to produce fantastic local apple juice and hopefully pear juice, which we’ll bottle and sterilize then for a small deposit on the bottle make available for to the good people of Potton. Good food, or in this case drink, from local gardens for local people, Throw in a hog roast and a bit of folk music and it could be a weekend to remember and hopefully repeat next year. I’ve applied for a grant to cover some of the cost of the necessary equipment, so would love to hear from anyone interested in helping out and bringing the project to life.
